The J2112A current injector is an extremely versatile tool to complement Picotest's line of available signal injectors. When used in conjunction with the G5100A AWG or other equivalent function generator, it is capable of performing load steps of small and large signals up to 40MHz, with rise/fall times up to 20ns and currents up to 1A. Rise and fall times can be controlled, and arbitrary waveforms can be used to drive the injector, yielding load current profiles with virtually any characteristics. This is ideal for emulating all kinds of loads, including fast charging of digital circuits, battery discharge profiles or spontaneous current spikes.
Combined with a network analyzer, the current injector can be used to measure the output impedance of all types of circuits and systems, including power supplies, voltage regulators, power rails and batteries. It can be used to NON-INVASIVE measure the stability of the combined input filter / negative resistance of a switching power supply or the phase margin of a linear or switching regulator WITHOUT interrupting the control loop.
It also supports applications in measuring and extracting transistor data, including current gain, Ft and many other dynamic operating parameters. In RF and instrument circuits, it can be used to provide constant current bias for Class A amplifiers and buffers.
High PSRR, low-noise regulator with universal input
Fast transient load staging up to 1Amp
Typical rise and fall time of 20nSec
DC-40MHz usable range (connection dependent)
Non-invasive measurement of phase margin, output impedance, reverse transfer, crosstalk, input filter stability.
Works with positive voltage sources.
Built-in offset for use with network analyzer
Precision current monitor with 50 Ohm output
Works with AWG, function generator and network analyzer from any manufacturer
Control input is any user-controlled DC+AC signal, which can be taken from a signal generator or network analyzer. Built-in bidirectional current bias enables Class A operation when used with network analyzers.
The output current is reduced by 40dB from the input signal, resulting in 10mA/V scaling. The current monitor's output port is rated for 50 Ohm termination and can be used with a network analyzer, oscilloscope or digital multimeter to monitor injector output current on a 1A/V scale.
